Re: Enzyme side effects

To all:

I just wanted to comment that the only side effects of using enzymes (any and all brands) is actually constipation. I have to go light with my little boy because if I give him enzymes 2 times a day, he will get very constipated. I’m also learning that he has to get enzymes at the beginning of a meal and not afterwards, but sometimes I try to give my sons all their supplements at once so as to avoid overload. I’ve never had an incident with wetting, but since my younger son is still in diapers, it hasn’t been an issue.

Enzymes and feeling sick

Hi Devin:

I think the problem with my older son, at least, was that he was getting all his supplements on a pretty empty stomach. He’s not a good breakfast eater and I’m learning to wait until he has some food in his stomach before giving ANY enzymes and other supplements. I don’t know why my younger son was running a fever – it could have been coincidental to also giving him Zyme Prime that day. I honestly don’t know. I want to continue trying these enzymes because I’ve been seeing good results. By the way, their breath is horrible the next morning if I slip up and don’t give them enzymes.

Thanks for your reply.

Reuteri probiotics

I just bought some more probiotics from the HFS I am rotating with. They are Reuteri from Nature’s Way. From the box: Each capsule contains Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and L. reuteri, and L. acidophilus, and 1,000 mg vitamin C. It is supposed to stimulate the GI tract cell development and improve intestinal cell structures (longer villi, deeper crypts), leading to more efficient nutrient uptake, enhanced physical growth and overall better health. L. reuteri also excretes a substance that is proven to have broad spectrum antimicrobial activity. It encourages lactobacteria to cluster and colonization in the intestinal tract. Naturally found in human breast milk and is one of the first strains passed from mother to child. What brands of probiotics are other people using?

Hey, glad to hear the enzymes are working better. I give enzymes at the beginning of a meal with the first few bites, and most all other supplements at breakfast. A couple at bedtime. Thanks for the topical B-12 idea. I think I will be looking for more topicals. My youngest can gag on a tablespoon of water.

Some people are much more sensitive to what is in their stomach. I know I can’t have much at all in my stomach at a time or I get nauseous. Sounds like your older one is more sensitive too. Also, Devin mentioned that with enzymes what really looks like constipation may actually be less “waste” overall because more food is being processed. But, of course, with yourself you would know if that was the case. I have my boys drink more now too. I don’t know if that would help or not.

Thanks for the update.

letter from Kandel ::Temper Tantrums?

Hi Everyone,

I’m wondering if any of you using enzyme’s (any & what kind) have had any improvement (decrease/illimination)of temper tantrums from your kiddo’s?

My son is 8 1/2 yrs old & I feel like we have been in the “terrible two’s” since he was born. I’m extremely weary of this..to put it mildly. I feel like if we could get rid of this behavior life would be soooooo very less stressful!!

Any suggestions for help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

question on zyme prime

My son Keeg has been taking zyme for 6 days and I haven’t seen any changes yet. I’ve heard some parents report formed bowel movements for the first time while on the enzymes but we are still seeing 3 or so bm’s a day that are thick and (pardon the description) peanut butter like. They are so sticky and have not improved. So, my question is this-if I were going to see any benefits would I have seen them by now or should I wait a little longer? I plan on continuing zyme regardless to see if Keeg gains some weight-you guys may remember Keeg was the one who gained 10oz. and 3 inches since January-at 3.8 yrs. he’s 25lbs 10oz. and 38 inches long. So, I’m really hoping this might be our answer for the weight issue. I am still waiting to hear from his gastro. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Isn’t there anyone who is seeing bad things from the enzymes?

I believe all of you with your good results and couldn’t be happier. I’m just wishing that I was seeing something so positive. We are seeing such mixed results that I can’t figure out what’s going on.

Today my son’s occupational therpaist left a half hour early because my son was stimming and completely uncooperative. She said she hasn’t seen that sort of behavior in well over a month and that his language was poor.

We’ve been on the enzymes for nine days. We have never gone off GFCF. Though I have given some foods containing potato starch and pear, which he is allergic to, and seen to reaction, this morning I gave him some rice cereal and he went totally nuts. Last night, for the first time in the nine days I forgot to give him the enzymes with dinner and he seemed to do great. His speech therapist believes she is seeing improvement with the little connector words and with intelligablity. That was after five days of the enzymes.

This morning I saw aggressive behavior, Johnathan pushed his sister in the floor for no reason. It has been weeks since we’ve dealt with any violence, and that is very difficult for me to tolerate. I just don’t know how long to give the enzymes before deciding if they are working or not. We also seem to be getting really firm stools, and less bm’s than usual. At the same time he seems to be passing more gas. My mother told me she felt this was a good thing, that maybe the enzymes are just now getting to his system.

Can anyone help me sort all this?

kjornan

I give Keeg 2 zymes a day-one with lunch, one with dinner. He is still gfcf and I haven’t given one at breakfast because Keeg only does a bottle of milk and a jar of fruit. I also have him on culturelle-2 a day for the clostridia overgrowth that is now (after 1 year) under control and I intend to keep it that way. That was a HUGE battle that I was not sure we were going to win. Keeg’s bm’s have been the same forever–there hasn’t been any change since the enzymes or since the clostridia level became normal. I just don’t understand why his bm’s are this way and will take your advice and try playing with the dose. I am planning on trying the pep this Friday. I’ll keep everyone posted. Thanks for your help!

Can you add enzyme activities up?

I was wondering if a label has say, protease 3000 HUT, peptidase 2000 USP, amylase 300 DU, Lipase 230 LU, and Lactace LacU, can you add all of the numbers up to get a rough idea of what the over activity power is?

Thanks, Karen.
